SUSTAINABILITY
DESIGN AND MATERIALS
We understand that much of the fashion industry’s environmental impact happens through decisions made at the design phase.
Aiming to reduce waste and also find new ways of using discarded fabric or unsalvageable pieces, previous collections have been composed of at least 50% upcycled or deadstock fabrics. Using creative pattern cutting practices that minimises leftover material, and producing made-to-order garments that minimise waste. We toile with fabrics we already have, either up cycled cottons or fabrics from previous collections. Pattern paper is reused until spent and then recycled. Every collection is proudly free from virgin fur and the skins of wild animals, ensuring both ethical craftsmanship and a commitment to sustainability.
Our complimentary repair service further supports this, extending the life of a garment to ensure our commitment to sustainability remains strong at every stage of creation and production. Our plan is to reduce our environmental impact as we grow, using more sustainable fabric choices such as organic cottons, recycled polyester, repurposed silks and second-hand leather.
MANUFACTURING AND PROCESS
All garments are currently designed and manufactured and made to order in our studio in London, UK. Ensuring each garment purchased has a long life and fits correctly. We also offer a free repair system; if a garment breaks we will accept return and mend the damaged item, the customer only has to cover postage costs.
Our studio has a high ESG rating. The team is small and access the studio by foot or public transport. All garment workers are paid above the minimal living wage in London.
As a small brand, we buy any extra fabrics we need from small wholesalers across London. As we expand, this is the first point we aim to improve and understand exactly where and how each fabric is dyed and created. We aim to only use manufactures that know their supply chain from start to finish, and ensure that each stage protects the environment and the treatment of all workers involved.
PEOPLE
Working with a diverse range of models is an essential part of the brand’s identity. The models used for fittings and shoots are female, non binary or trans and always a variety of sizings.
At Ellie Misner Studio, we aim to uphold the highest ethical standards which includes ensuring fair employment, safe conditions, and respect for human dignity.
WASH AND CARE
All garments are hand wash or cold wash on a delicate cycle. This ensures the garment maintains a long wear life and minimal damage to the environment; reducing microplastic fibres during the washing cycle and the amount released into waste water.
SHIPPING AND PACKAGING
All packaging used is recyclable; shipping bags, cardboard boxes, tissue paper and shredded paper for protection of garments.
UK orders are sent via Royal Mail which has the lowest emissions per parcel of any courier, at 200gCO2e. International orders are sent via UPS with carbon emissions offset, making shipments carbon neutral.
